The Austro-Hungarian government used the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand as a pretext to deal with the Serbian question, supported by Germany. On 23 July 1914, an ultimatum was sent to Serbia with ten demands, some so extreme that the Serbian reply included reservations and rejected the sixth demand. The Serbians, relying on support from Russia, removed acceptance of the sixth key demand (the draft reply had accepted it), and also ordered mobilization. In response to this, Austria-Hungary issued a declaration of war on 28 July. Initially, Russia ordered partial mobilization, directed at the Austrian frontier. On 31 July, after the Russian General Staff informed the Czar that partial mobilization was logistically impossible, a full mobilization was ordered. The Schlieffen Plan, which relied on a quick strike against France, could not afford to allow the Russians to mobilize without launching an attack. Thus, the Germans declared war against Russia on 1 August and on France two days later. Germany then violated Belgium’s neutrality by the German advance through it to Paris, and this brought the British Empire into the war. With this, five of the six European powers were now involved in the largest continental European conflict since the Napoleonic Wars.

 Britney Spears is “spending her summer in the recording studio” working on a new album, according to a statement issued by her camp Wednesday.

The faded pop star is working with an unidentified “team of top-notch producers and songwriters” for the follow-up to last year’s “Blackout,” which has sold 879,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

No release date was indicated in the statement from Jive Records and Spears’ manager, Larry Rudolph. Reuters reported that her last CD sold less then a million copies. Britney fans can go to www.britneyspears.com to get the latest news.

Teen sensation Miley Cyrus has been caught up in yet another photo scandal after an internet hacker accessed her phone’s memory and found a series of saucy snaps.

The new pictures allegedly show the singer posing seductively in the shower with only a wet t-shirt covering her modesty, as well as a photo of her showing off her stomach in a skimpy top. The snaps were reportedly downloaded from the star’s personal picture phone memory by a hacker calling himself the Digital Gangster.

According to a celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, who has the controversial new photographs on his website, the hacker is shopping the snaps around to several publications in the hope of landing a big paycheck. And Digital Gangster claims to have a whole host of raunchy snaps he has found on the 15-year-old’s phone.

Cyrus has been involved in several photo scandals this year, including her highly controversial Vanity Fair cover shoot in May, in which she is shown posing with a satin sheet.

A former student of the Royal Academy of Music in London, England, the man born Reginald Kenneth Dwight in 1947 left school and immediately began his path in the music industry. His first band, Bluesology, was formed in 1961. He would later take his stage name from the Bluesology saxophonist Elton Dean and their charismatic frontman, Long John Baldry. Elton John was introduced to Bernie Taupin in 1967 by Ray Williams at Liberty Records. Amazingly, their first compositions were conducted by mail. In 1968 they became staff songwriters for Dick James’ DJM label, farming out music to budding pop stars.

Elton and Bernie’s prolific nature was established early in his career. By the time Elton’s self-titled breakthrough album and evergreen hit Your Song had introduced him to an international stage in 1970, they had honed their skill to such a degree that Bernie could turn out a lyric in half an hour and Elton could compose to it within the hour. In the period between 1970-76, with producer Gus Dudgeon at the helm, they made an astonishing fourteen albums including Elton John, Tumbleweed Connection, Madman Across The Water, Honky Chateau, Don’t Shoot Me, I’m Only The Piano Player, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Caribou and Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboy. Amongst these, Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy was the first album ever to enter the Billboard Chart at Number One. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, with its string of American Number One hit singles and unbroken two month run at the top of the Billboard Top 100, became an all- time classic.

Hellboy 2 The Golden Army was released last week. Go to Yahoo Movies to see the trailer. I saw the first one and it was pretty good. I plan to take the kids to see this one.
